IPL 2019 has already created more buzz than the entire IPL 2017 season, says a mid-season report compiled by Wavemaker MESH – real-time marketing command centre.
While the buzz during the event increased whenever Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), CSK has emerged as buzziest Team this IPL season. The team is also holding the number 1 spot on ranking this season.
The study conducted between 23rd March to 16th April, 2019 tries to understand IPL 2019 social buzz as the event unfolds. It also looks to identify top IPL teams, top players, advertisers leaderboard and most viral IPL ads on social media.
According to the report, during the ongoing IPL season, RCB rang the buzz meter whenever they performed poorly. RCB’s captain, Virat Kohli, was the most mentioned player followed by CSK captain MS Dhoni. CSK has also emerged as buzziest team this IPL season. Three players from CSK appeared in the social player leaderboard.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli saw 501K social mentions followed by MS Dhoni 312K and Rohit Sharma 225K. Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh were the two other CSK players in the top list with 154K and 141K mentions. Due to his fiery batting, Andre Russell also appeared in the list with 188K mentions.
CSK and RCB were ahead of the rest of the competitors in terms of buzz mostly due to the popularity of their players. CSK hashtags also remained at the top followed by Mumbai Indians.
Driven by #VivoIPL and #PerfectFan conversations, title sponsor Vivo was the buzziest brand this IPL. #VivoIPL was also instrumental in helping the brand top the buzziest advertisers list. The brand’s #PerfectFan contest (Winners stood a chance to win match tickets every day) was the other campaign driving audience activity.
Vodafone was the second buzziest brand around IPL 2019. Vodafone’s content featuring Zoozoos was the most loved (in terms of likes and shares). FANtastic Breaks contest helped the brand garner over 300K comments on Facebook.
Meanwhile, official broadcaster, Star Sports, ranked third in overall social media buzz.
The study was conducted by Wavemaker after analysing the social conversations and the impact of IPL 2019 in India. The report also studies social mentions on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Blogs, Forums, Google+, online news, mainstream news and various consumer forums.
A detailed keyword analysis is also conducted to identify social chatter around various aspects of IPL 2019.
